Why Your Peers, and Competitors, are Using Spread

We recently surveyed our registered users of both Spread for ASP.NET (Web Forms) and Spread Windows Forms and asked them several questions, including the following:

Why did you buy Spread? What were the deciding factors/features for purchasing:

Following are some of their responses (listed in random order). While we planned on using them for internal review only, they were so good we thought we would share them with you. Click the Read More link to view many more comments. Thanks to all who participated in the survey!

"I have used your product (FarPoint Spread) since VB 3,4,5,6 - long ago, so it was a natural progression. Second, I worked with other spreadsheets, Infragistics, SyncFusion, and Microsofts Grid in ASP pages and there were performance issues, especially for more sophisticate tasks."
"We needed a flexible grid control which could display icons and had good format control. We didn't use much spreadsheet-like functionality initially, but we do use it more and more now."
"It was the most full-featured grid available that we could find. We used FarPoint Spread COM version 6 in place of the native object in Visual FoxPro and then continued with the .NET products as we migrated our applications to .NET. Specifically, the ability to have different objects in different rows of the same column was the initial reason for purchasing. Being able to vary the cell type and properties on a cell by cell basis programmatically is also at the top of the list. Basically, having the functionality of a grid but the ability to make it look otherwise is important to us."
"In 1999 a friend of mine recommended me to use FarPoint Spread spreadsheet control, which I did. I was very pleased with the result and how easy it was to work with. I've been using the product since then. For me it's just a natural choice."
"I'm a Microsoft MVP so there isn't much I can't make the .NET DataGridView do, but I ran into a large project where the grid needed to have many Excel-like features as well as support multi-column filters, hierarchical display, and support large sets of data with better performance than DataGridView. So the net effect is writing less code and better performance. After evaluating FarPoint Spread, I was able to do some very complex things within a few days of prototyping and became convinced that it would be well worth the investment. Now that the application I am using FarPoint Spread for has flown through alpha testing, I am convinced I made the right choice."
"We had previously used the OCX version of FarPoint Spread (v3.1) and when moving to .NET it was an obvious candidate. The major advantages of this Spread were the multiple column and row headers, the multiple sheets and the ability to span/merge cells especially in the header cells."
"We always look for the product with the most prominent position in the marketplace. We have no time for tools that will not be around in the future. The company backing is important, and obviously the feature set was very good."
"A vendor had begun initial development using the tool, and as we have now taken over development of the application, we have purchased our own license. We did do a short review of spreadsheet tools, but found yours provides us the flexibility for the in-house application/tools that we are developing. The built-in formulas make use of the spreadsheet a lot easier for many of our users."
"My company at the time used FarPoint Spread ActiveX for VB from version 3.0 onwards. It proved to be most useful and stable control as compared with any other used from that time. In fact, that is the only custom control (not coming from microsoft) we are still using. As part of the upgrade process and migration towards full Web applications, using FarPoint Spread further on proves to be the cheapest solution and it gives the end-user a much better user experience compared with any other control."
"We used it for the last 10 years. It was one of the first spreadsheet components and still one of the best."
